What are spinnerbaits and chatterbaits and how to choose them?

Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits are popular fishing lures known for their ability to attract predatory fish by creating vibrations and movements in the water. Here´s an overview of these lures and tips on how to choose them:

Spinnerbaits:
Spinnerbaits consist of a metal wire frame with one or more spinning blades, a lead head, a skirt made of silicone or rubber strands, and a hook. The spinning blades create flash and vibrations to attract fish.
Blade types: Spinnerbaits come with different blade types—Colorado, willowleaf, Indiana, etc. Each blade shape produces a different vibration and movement in the water. For example, Colorado blades create more vibration, while willowleaf blades offer more flash.
Skirt and trailer options: The skirt material and color, as well as the choice of trailers soft plastic baits attached to the hook, can influence the lure´s appearance and action.

Chatterbaits:
Chatterbaits are similar to spinnerbaits but have a distinct vibrating blade, called a "chatter blade," that produces a unique pulsating action and vibration as it moves through the water.
Blade design: The blade on a chatterbait typically has a unique shape with a hexagonal or elongated design, which creates intense vibrations and erratic movements to attract fish.
Skirt and trailer options: Similar to spinnerbaits, the choice of skirt material, color, and trailers can affect the chatterbait´s appearance and action.

When choosing spinnerbaits or chatterbaits:
Consider water conditions: Select the size, blade type, and color based on water clarity, depth, and the behavior of the target fish. Brighter or contrasting colors might work well in murky water, while natural colors can be effective in clear water.
Match the forage: Choose lure colors and patterns that mimic the baitfish or prey species found in the area where you´re fishing. This helps attract predatory fish by resembling their natural food sources.
Vary blade type and size: Experiment with different blade types Colorado, willowleaf, etc. and sizes to see what produces the best action and vibration in the water and elicits strikes from fish.
Consider trailer options: Use trailers that complement the spinnerbait or chatterbait to enhance its action and appearance. Soft plastic trailers like swimbaits or crawfish imitations can add realism and increase the lure´s effectiveness. You can buy the chatter bait from these brands: Shimano Fishing, Daiwa, Hart, Berkley, and SPRO.
