Wind can take your plans and scatter them across three counties. The versatile Retro-X® has the wind-stopping ability to block the gusts coming off the Medicine Bow range and the fortitude for burly ranch work. Its thick 100% polyester (86% recycled) Synchilla® fleece face is soft and supple. A moisture-wicking, brushed-mesh lining and a windproof/breathable barrier cut cold and wind faster than a tumbler of scotch. With Y-Joint sleeves for mobility, a vertical zippered chest pocket made of Supplex® nylon and zippered handwarmer pockets lined with brushed poly mesh. At the end of the day, use a bunched-up Retro-X Jacket as a pillow. Hip length.
In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.
Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.
Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

- Polartec, LLC Textile Mill :
In 1981, we worked with Polartec to co-develop our Synchilla® fleece. Now more than 30 years later, they still create many of our technical fleece and knit baselayer fabrics. They were an early adopter of recycled polyester technology, and their extensive use of recycled fibers has helped us balance environmental responsibility and innovative performance in our most technical materials. They were also the first supplier in the U.S. to produce bluesign® approved fabrics. Since 2008, they have invested almost 2.4 million into energy conservation technology that has reduced their carbon footprint by 13% and their electricity consumption by 24%.
- Supertex Colombia Sewing Factory :
At their two sewing factories in Colombia, Supertex makes swimwear products and midlayer technical fleece garments for us. To set their employees up for success, they established a training school at their main Colombian factory in Cali, where new workers are paid for three months of skills development before joining the sewing team. They also hold an annual Kaizen initiative in which teams of workers present ideas for water, waste, energy and productivity improvements. Each team whose project is implemented is awarded 10% of the first-year savings. In the next two years, Supertex will be launching this program in their other factories as well.
