Smith Fuse Reg 09/10: SMITH SNOW GOGGLE TECHNOLOGY:
TLT OPTICS- When light passes through a medium it refracts i.e. changes course. This refraction can cause visual distortion and eye fatigue.Smith Tapered Lens Technology straightens out the incoming light rays by progressivley tapering the lens from the optial center towards the peripheral view. You see with 100% accuracy and maximum comfort.
CARBONIC X-LENS -
-Optically precise, spherical Carbonic X-lens for superior clarity and impact resistance.
-Proprietary silicone -based hardcoated lens provides unsurpassed scratch and abrasion resistance.
-Patented Regulator adjustable lens ventilation system.
HYDROPHOBIC LENS COATING - A durable hydrophobic coating bonded to all mirrored lenses reduces smudging and increases scratch resistance.
POLARIZED OPTICS - Glare happens. Not just on flat surfaces, but also on hard-packed snow and ice - overloading your retinas with too much information, and wearing out your eyes.
Our polarized snow lenses balance polarization efficiency, light transmission, and lens tint to filter out visual noise and cut through haze. This allows the eye to better concentrate on surface features so you can focus on whats important - riding.
LENS FACTS:
-Polarized Rose Copper tint
- 25% VLT
- Patented Vaporator lens technology
- Patented Regulator adjustable lens ventilation system
- 100% UVA/B/C protection
UV PROTECTION - Protection from the Sun
Linked to eye diseases, cataracts, and temporary conditions such as "snowblindness," Ultraviolet Radiation (UVA/B/C) is magnified by snow-covered surfaces. All Smith lens tints protect your eyes from 100% of these harmful forms of solar radiation.
Visible Light Transmission (VLT)
The percentage of available light allowed to reach the eye. Different tints offer specific VLT to enhance vision in various light conditions.
VENTILATION - Varying levels of goggle ventilation are available within the Smith line. While all of our goggles employ frame ventilation using a breathable foam membrane, we also utilize patented fog-prevention technologies to actively promote the circulation of air throughout the goggle.
PATENTED VAPORATOR LENS - The patented Vaporator lens technology leads the industry in thermal lens barriers. Utilizing processes previously reserved for the aerospace industry, our lenses are robotically cut and bonded together to eliminate lens de-lamination, the number one cause of between-the-lens fogging. This is the worlds strongest thermal lens barrier.
THERMAL LENS - Two single lenses bonded together with a sealed "dead air" space between them create a thermal barrier that keeps the inner lens warm and dry. Like storm windows, but much more comfortable, this process keeps cold, moist air outside where it belongs.
FOG - X TREATMENT - A hydrophilic chemical treatment creates a micro-etched surface on the inner lens to absorb moisture before fog can form. Because Fog-X is a treatment that is actually burned into the lens it cant be wiped away like other anti-fog coatings.
FLEXIBLE URETHANE FRAME - Smith uses a unique urethane compound, which allows the frame to conform to individual facial features while maintaining its flexibility in extreme cold temperatures.
PERFORMANCE FACE FOAM - Ultra-plush. Perfect fit. Our dual density DriWix-, compression-molded face foams seal out the elements and create maximum comfort.
SPLIT V NOSE - A Smith innovation that provides a self-adjusting fit around the nose. Available on all models .
LENS TINTS:
Red Mirror: Gray base lens tint with a multi-layered red mirror cuts glare and reduces eye fatigue in bright, sunny conditions. 30% VLT
Ignitor Mirror: Proprietary new universal lens tint designed to reduce eye fatigue while enhancing contrast and depth perception in all conditions. A versatile lens tint designed to be used all season long. 35% VLT.
RC36: The universal lens tint. Combines rose and copper base tints. Provides the absolute best vision in most conditions. Increases depth perception and cuts glare in all conditions. 36% VLT.
HELPFUL HINTS TO KEEP YOUR GOGGLES FOG-FREE--
WEARING YOUR GOGGLES ON YOUR FOREHEAD WILL CAUSE THEM TO FOG. Your head is a like a smokestack of a stream train, 30% of your bodys heat goes through the top of the head. Placing your goggles on your forehead will trap the moisture causing your goggles to fog.
WIPING GOGGLES OF EXCESS SNOW IN THEM WILL INCREASE FOGGING Smearing the snow and ice from your last wipe-out around the inside of your lens will only result increased fogging and more frustration. Then use a Smith Snow Eraser to soft cloth to mop up the majority of the moisture. Ideally, youll want to find a restroom automatic hand dryer to fully dry the inner and outer lenses.
-DONT WEAR YOUR GOGGLES WHEN HIKING. The moisture you generate cannot be evacuated quickly enough if there is not sufficient flow of air through the goggle chamber.
PUTTING THEM ON YOUR FOREHEAD WILL ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE. The moisture that evaporates from your forehead will quickly fog the lens.
PLACING YOUR GOGGLES IN AN INTERIOR POCKET WILL INCREASE THE CHANCES OF FOGGING. If your head is blowing off steam that means your body is generating a ton of heat and moisture, the majority of which is getting in your coat.
AS AN ALTERNATIVE, STORE YOUR GOGGLES IN AN EXTERIOR POCKET. This will protect your goggles from the heat and moisture inside your coat, and any moisture from the outside environment, keeping hem dry and ready for use when you get to the top.
